What size fan for 3×3 grow tent? This is a question you may be asking yourself if you are looking to purchase or build a grow tent.

When choosing a fan for your grows tent, it is very important to make sure to get the right size.

A fan that is too small will not be able to move enough air, and a fan that is too large could create drafty conditions in the tent. Let’s fine out!

What Size Fan For 3×3 Grow Tent?

For your 3×3 grow tent, we recommend using a 205 CFM fan. This will provide plenty of air movement and ventilation for your plants.

What Size Fan For 3x3 Grow Tent

When choosing a fan for you to grow tent, it is essential to consider both the size and the type of fan. Because The type of fan you choose will also play a role in how much air it can move.

An inline fan is going to be much more powerful than a desktop fan. Besides, A larger inline fan will be able to move more air than a smaller desktop fan.

Keep these things in mind when selecting a fan for your grow tent. Below the table we give fan requirements for common grow tent sizes:

Tent Size(W x D x H)Carbon filter & No duct bend
2x2x7 Feet40 CFM
2x4x7 Feet80 CFM
3x3x7 Feet90 CFM
4x4x7 Feet160 CFM
5x5x7 Feet240 CFM

How To Select The Right To Grow Tent Fan Size And Power

How To Select The Right To Grow Tent Fan Size And Power

In order to select the right to grow tent fan size and power, it is important to consider the size of your tent and the type of plants you will be growing.

If you are only growing a few plants, then a smaller fan may suffice. Follow the below calculation:

An example calculation for a 3×3 grows tent using a 600w HPS light. First, you need to calculate the volume of your grow tent. To do this, multiply the length x width x height.

So, 3ft x 3ft x 6ft = 54 cubic ft. Next, you need to calculate the air exchange rate. This is how many times per minute you need to exchange the air in your tent.

For a grow tent using a 600w light, you will need to exchange the air 4-5 times per minute.

When you take into account a carbon filter subtracting 25% from the efficiency of your fan and a 90-degree duct bend reducing another 30%, a fan with 112cfm will fall short.

As a result, for a 3×3 grow tent with an area of about 54 cubic feet, a grow tent fan (inline fan) rated for at least 205cfm will be required to provide the recommended minimum of 4-5 air changes per minute.

So, for a 4×4 grow tent with a volume of around 106 cubic feet, a grow tent fan (inline fan) rated for approximately 205cfm would suffice.

Now that you know the CFM, you can select a fan that is capable of moving that amount of air per minute.

It is important to choose a fan that is slightly larger than your calculated CFM because you want to make sure your grow tent has plenty of ventilation.

How To Install A Fan Inside The Grow Tent

How To Install A Fan Inside The Grow Tent

If you want to place a fan on your grow tent, then you have two options. One option is to install the fan inside the tent.

The second option is to install the fan outside the tent. Below we will discuss how to install a fan inside the tent.

Step 1: Attach And Adjust Hangers

The first step is to attach the hangers to the fan. Now attach the hangers to the support bars of your grow tent ceiling in a similar manner.

You’ll need enough for the fan and ducting. Make sure they’re long enough to accommodate the height of the fan you’ll be hanging. Remember that hot air rises, so don’t hang too low.

Step2: Attach Zip Ties

Next, install zip ties or metal braces on the fan’s attachment area. Connect hangers with zip ties. Make sure that the fan is secure and cannot move around.

Step 3: Connect Ducting

Now it’s time to connect your ducting to the fan. You’ll need to connect the ducting from your grow tent fan’s intake end to the output side and wrap zip ties or metal brackets around it.

Also, connect it to hangers. The other end of the ducting should be vented out of the grow tent.

Step 4: Hang And Secure The Fan

Finally, it’s time to hang and secure your grow tent fan. Suspend the fan using the hangers you installed in step 1.

Then use zip ties or metal clamps to secure the fan further. Make sure that the fan is completely secure and cannot move around.

Now you know how to install a grow tent fan! Keep in mind that if you choose to install the fan inside the grow tent, then you will need to make sure that there is enough ventilation and air movement in your grow tent.
